Hunger Has No Religion
The 2020 lock down pandemic has exposed us to this local Organization on our doorstep. Nuraan Esack Gain is the founder, she heads a team of selfless volunteers, they have run feeding initiatives for over 7 years in the area. During the pandemic and needs for food aid, they have seen their services grow to daily feeding with numbers reaching 1000 and more. We are delighted to partner with HHNR as many of their beneficiaries are also ours from the Slovo Park Informal Settlement and surrounding areas. We reach out to the same community of children and families through our educational support programmes. It simply made sense to see how we can move forward capacitating them rather than re-inventing the wheel through feeding.
This Organisation has recently registered as an NPC and our aim is to continue collaboration and learning together as we support their efforts and potential for sustainable development moving forward. Nuraan is supported by a formidable team of men, women and children. These include her mom Gairo Esack , Fazlin Gain and Shenaaz Jardine. Women supporting women, with the help of their extended family members. They live the values of compassion, care and provide a most basic need in the form of a delicious meal cooked with love. They have extended their services over this time to include distribution of fabric masks, clothing and toiletries to those in need.
We look forward to an exciting journey ahead in collaboration with this team and the support of their network through Leigh Taylor and Aleksandria Horwood from abroad who have played a pivotal role in
their continued efforts of fundraising to keep these services going.
