The first quarter of 2019 has been filled with various activities at the Toy Library. The Implementation of Grant received by the De Beers Ambassadors for Good Programme is now completed. It includes structural upgrades of the Toy Library in form of a motorised gate with Intercom installed, purchase of laptops, a projector plus further equipment for the Slovo Centre. In addition to that, we hosted the World Read Aloud Day in collaboration with Hamilton Memorial Crecheand Nal’iBali.
VukaDay Care, based at SlovoPark Informal Settlement is being incubated by the Slovo Centre. Activities and games using the Play with a Purpose Program is in place for 2019, where our facilitators also had the chance to acquire training in lego.
Furthermore, we are happy to be continuing the Power of 10 Computer literacy program in collaboration with UJ teaching children aged 10-14 years old computer skills including crafts, games and activities.
We also continue theme-based programmes, specifically focussing on children’s cognitive development activities, strengthening gross and fine motor skills through play. Further activities included making Easter crafts plus activities and games on keyboard.
