2017 in summary

We have had an incredibly busy 2017, starting with re-establishing and moving Slovo Centre of Excellence to new premises at Family Worship Centre (FWC) Cnr. Retief and Harmony Str. Hursthill, Johannesburg.

Collaboration is the way forward and as such we have worked with FWC to run a number of programmes this year, including Edu-FUN – an extension of FWC’s Sunday School weekly programme. In addition, our Pow10 programme continued with:

  • Power of 10 Ladies group – approximately 10 beneficiaries attended sessions on personal development, sharing and caring, social interaction or training on different skills.
  • Power of 10 Computer Literacy Training –  in collaboration with University of Johannesburg Faculty of Management (UJFoM), which ran as 3 month pilot programme.

SCE has run several other Pow10 programmes this year including:

  • ART Classes with Volunteer Service Provider viz.Vivienne
  • BrainBoosters – Grd1 to Grd3 –an Edu-Fun programme
  • The Awana Spiritual and Social Programme in collaboration with AFM:TMF
  • Launch of Enterprise Development Initiatives (EDI)- selling of rusks (using packaging donation from of which some items were donated to other charities; and balance to be sold for income generation)
  • Yum-elicious continues with its EDI production of home-made deli products – “made with a purpose”
  • Re-establishing the Toy Library at new centre in collaboration with FWC
  • Other stakeholders in the pipeline for our Edu-Fun Programmes.
  • Training and Development of SCE Staff
